This 150 year old Big Red Barn has been beautifully
remodeled and restored to
provide a bright, cheerful learning space for children.
Old,
grayed beams, whose days have
seen many a horse, cow, kitten,
chicken, and hay bale, have been
sandblasted to the honey color they
sported last century when the barn
was built. Wooden nails and
hand-hewn cuts in the beams
remain a central part of the decor.
This unique building is home to our
morning and afternoon half-day
program. This multi-age classroom
houses children ages 3 to 5 during the academic year but is
home to school age children during Summer on the Farm.
Nature study, gardening, art, music, sports and animal
studies are taught by KELC's enrichment teachers during the
summer months.
Young children are "learning to
learn", so each day teachers plan
activities designed to broaden the
base for learning. Children are
guided to develop confidence,
independence, curiosity, motivation
and the ability to communicate.
Activities in
language arts, math/science, computers, music and art are
woven into the weekly lesson plans
to encourage active participation by each child.
